Coolant leak from inlet manifold
I have a slight constant drip of coolant from the underside of the inlet manifold. It appears to be coming from the area that part 19 shows on the underside on the attached diagram.
Two questions: What is actually on the underside where this cover (Plate?) is ?
Is it easy to remove and fix or replace the manifold.

Re: Coolant leak from inlet manifold
19 is a core plug and they can rust and leak but as said ^^^check it's not just running down from the pipe at the rear right next to it, often the aluminium corrodes and forms white Aluminium oxide under the pipe and then leaks.

Re: Coolant leak from inlet manifold
Thanks for the comments, I had a pretty good look at the leak and it wasn't from the pipe so corroded core plug could be the problem. Are they available as spares?
Cheers

yes core plugs are standard not specifically VW I'm guessing 24mm as it has 24 in comments but need to measure it.
Somebody borrowed my spare maifold so I can't measure for you, maybe somebody else can as I doubt you can measure in situ.

Never had a problem getting bolts out.
Make sure gaskets ate fitted the right way they are not quite symmetrical
Personaly I'd use some dirco S or equivilant on the plug

Re: Coolant leak from inlet manifold
Best advice for undoing any steel bolt into aluminium, get it warmed up , run the engine up to temp , then crack them quarter of a turn and go get a coffee and let the engine bay cool before continuing with the job .

The inlet gaskets are all you need and they are available individually.

Will I need to replace the carb gasket ? Or does that stay on the manifold when it is being removed ?
Cheers

Re: Coolant leak from inlet manifold
it's not good to turn a carb upside down, any dirt in the float chamber can clog jets.
Personally I would remove carb and keep it upright, you can't buy the lower gasket so need gasket paper and make one.
