Can’t help with the part number , but if it’s out of a t25 it’s the only option, they didn’t make diesel autos asfaik

Cheers. I had a nagging thought that Aircooled and watercooled automatic boxes were somehow different

I’m not sure, but the bell housings are the same , So it will fit , but obviously you will have different link rods to the throttle cable as the aircold have twin soles and not pierburgh 2e3

I think the auto box in a water cooled van is fitted with a coolant fed fluid cooler, so is the air cooled‘ box itself the same ?
As a matter of interest I seem to recall a red ,diesel auto van mentioned / shown on this forum a couple of months ago for sale for £ 25000

Thanks BH. Missed that gearbox but I'll save the info. Garage said that that previous repairers messed about with gearbox so much on the 1st rebuild that this time they're going to start from scratch using innards from a 90s golf gearbox.

Got a call from the garage to say that the valve body was full of metal again but there's nothing apparently wrong with the gearbox and the torque converter was only rebuilt a few hundred miles ago. Been about 6 weeks in the garage. Anyone got a theory on where the metal would come from?

either bearings or the gearbox casing, depending on what the metal is.....

These guys only repair auto boxes, I'd have hoped they'd have ruled these possibilities out. Beginning to wonder what's going on

I’m sure I’ve read this thread before somewhere, now where was it...

Nope, escapes me!

That's right. Lightning strikes three times it seems. Want van back now.

E D I T. Turns out that it was the torque converter that had broken up even though it was only rebuilt a few hundred miles ago

I'm afraid that goes to the Maybot.

As for the gearbox, I have one here for spares/repairs if it's any use. £150 including torque converter. The bell housing casting was broken by some ham fisted remover.
