Thicker oil
It's about time for an oil change in our 1.9 dg 1984 westie. We do have a few oil leaks here and there mostly from the push rod tubes which I will replace with the teloscopic ones soon. I have been told though that because our engine is older and we should maybe use a thicker grade oil. We use the 15w 40 at the moment which is the correct grade for our van. I was told if I us d a thinker oil it would help with the leaks. What do you guys think about this. I'm topping up the oil slowly a cup full every week or so at the moment which I think is due to it just leaking onto the road as we drive

Re: Thicker oil
I dont think using a thicker oil will solve your problem.Just get your pushrod seals sorted.

Re: Thicker oil
Only if they create a pool in excess of 75mm in 5mins, or if there are many leaks which collectively leak fluid at the same rate.fazzer wrote:Oil leaks are an mot failure now,
This is the same standard which has been applied at MoT test (or roadside check) for PCV and LGV for many years, and now applies to all testable classes of vehicle.

Tho in regards to the seep test, nearly every supermarket parking space I see a small oil patch on the floor!
Not saying it's right mind you!
