Engine number.
I need a clutch so I am trying to find my engine number. I believe it to be either DG or DF but the engine number is as below picture. Anyone come across this symbol or number format before?

Re: Engine number.
I believe that means the engine has been rebuilt by VW at some time, I have an engine stripped at the moment which is like that. I would hazard that you have a DG from the looks of things.
Either way, what's important is the clutch size, should be 228mm whether it's a DG or a DF unless early when 215mm used. DJ is same size but a different part number, but yours isn't injected and I suppose you would know if it was a 2.1
If you are looking on ECP, search by vehicle, for some reason the reg number does not pull up all the applicable parts for me. Here's a link for BW https://www.brickwerks.co.uk/clutch-t3- ... 228mm.html
Can you put your van details in your signature, it helps people help you

Re: Engine number.
VW rebuild week 31 2002 made in Poland, may have exact date and initials of builder on the heads, there's the remains of a paper sticker on the top of the engine right side under the manifold if you can read that the engine number the last two letters will say what it is that was the only way to tell from the outside
025 100 031 CX is the DG engine part number
BX is DF
DX is DJ
EX is MV

Re: Engine number.
Some very suspect plumbing going on
the coolant pipe to carb should not come from the thermostst housing ( and it has a join in it) , it looks like it was a DF thermostat housing which has an extra outlet on and this has been attached to a DG carb, so you can't rule out a DF wearing a DG carb
in addition all your fuel clips are the wrong type and there is a join in the return fuel pipe which is not good, what is inside?
The air filter to breather tower pipe has had it too.

Re: Engine number.
Check timing mark on front pulley. It's most likely stayed with the engine since rebuild, despite any other shenanigans. If you don't know the differences, stick a photo up and the hive mind will ID it.
