Re: Speedo Bounce
Something else for the annual service maybe. It's probably too late once it starts bouncing - the wear has already damaged it.

Re: Speedo Bounce
I didn't use any oil but I did ponder on using some spray grease inside.

Re: Speedo Bounce
Just peeled back a bit of the cover, maybe this has something to do with it, the GEMO cable is more flexible because it's not a full tube but when you flex it it will tend to rub on edges and pinch more.
Also oil will tend to disappear into the gaps and not be where it's needed.
when you look at the route behind dash it goes past speedo through hole in bulkhead and then back so it takes a curvy route under dash.

Re: Speedo Bounce
That looks as though the Gemo one has copied the original design and then didn't add the 2nd spiral ( cost saving? ).

GEMO made them for VW.
It's possible that VW wanted cost savings and it was changed during production and so buy a VW cable now and it could be the same thing, or on the other hand just becuse GEMO made them for VW does not mean this version is the same quality as you say, to save money and take the business off VW.

Made by GEMO who made them for VW. Basically a VW Part at an aftermarket price.
We've tried the cheaper £5 cables (Telco et al) and they don't clip on tightly to the speedo head.
yes I had one of the crapy Telco ones donkeys years ago and had to send it back.
Re: Speedo Bounce
I am thinking at £38+p&p from classic, i will cope with the bounce for now.

If I didn't have two original cables still I think I'd invest in one as it annoys me so much.

Re: Speedo Bounce
Without the 2nd thinner spiral, would it tend to crush easier on tight bends and bind on the driven cable?

Re: Speedo Bounce
There's not quite enough showing, but is the angle of the coils on the inner Gemo cable greater than on the VW one ?
Would that mean a less rigid inner cable, one more likely to kink ?

maybe I can look later, or could it be that the angle should be different inner to outer or it will tend to ride along the cable?

We are not alone..https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewt ... p?t=445162" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
What i can't understand is why has it been fine for ages then suddenly bouncy
Oiling the cable seems to work for some,I wonder what make of cables they were oiling.http://forum.club8090.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=117359" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
