Reversing light conundrum.

Post by Titus A Duxass »

Okay I have a 3h box which is now in a petrol body.

I came to wire up the reversing lights only too find that the petrol bus has the same two wires (same colours) but not the same connector.

The petrol one has two spade type terminals and my gearbox has a two pin JPT type connector.

No problem to a man of my calibre, off with the spades and on with suitable JPT connector - sorted!

Er, no! The lights don't work!

Any pointers?

No, I must admit that I haven't.
I'm going down the "it was working fine when I took the box out" approach.

Do the switched just send a +12v to the lights?

I know you would have checked for power, but not all JPT type connectors are the same length check the pins actually touch.

Reversing light switches are just simple switches, allowing the 12v feed to pass to the lights.

Should be simple stuff, (I know :) ), 12v feed present, continuity through the switch, cables connecting to the rear lights unit, bulbs not blown, decent earth from the bulb holder

Good point, I'll check when I get home on Friday.
