Poptop roof beds - how to make?

Post by Ads1987 »

Hi Guys,

I have a leisure drive poptop that opens on it's side, it's never had any beds in roof. I seen a few pictures online but nothing really describes how to mount and make the board etc. Does anyone have any pictures or guides of how to do it? Just working out where you'd put the load etc as the roof is only single skin so guess it sits on the edges of the roof?

Cheers,

Adam.

I have a Leisuredrive pop top too

If you can, let us know know what pictures / dimensions you would like and I'll try and get some more for you.

Here's one to start with

Thanks that's perfect, looks exactly the same type as mine, I just have a bare roof with no bed, would it possible to send a couple of pics underneath the bedding. I'm basically just trying to work out where they fix the boards to and how they do it?

Cheers,

No problem, mine is dismantled so all the bits are easy to access - might be a couple of days before I'm with the van though

That's a great help thanks for your time dude, will help solve a mystery! I've got an idea of how to do it but I'm sure the original design will be better.

Thanks,

Adam.

Unexpectedly I needed to go to where the van is, so here's some pictures for you

Frustatingly I couldn't find my tape measure so might have to add / remeasure some details later, let me know if this is enough or if there's something else you need

Looking rear

Looking forward

Image

One piece of the bed.

Made of 15mm ply I think, 109cm high, 94.5cm wide

Image

Note the lip is curved, starts off at 60mm and narrows to 45mm at the centre before widening again

Image

The other piece

Overall size is 64cm wide and 113.5cm high

The flat pieces are 50mm wide at the top and bottom, 25mm at the left and right as you look at the picture

The sides up to the base of the bed are 30mm top and bottom, 60mm left and 25mm right

That's great thanks so much for going to all of that effort, it doesn't look like the roof has any extra reinforcement then, the board simply sits on the roof braces already in place?

That makes much more sense now thank you,
