DIY Teardrop caravan

Post by Sailsy »

Hi all,

Has anyone on here made a DIY Teardrop caravan. I am thinking of making one for the kids to chill out in/sleep in because they are getting a bit big for the van.

Looks fairly straightforward and I think I have the required woodworking skills. In the USA you can buy fairly cheap but sturdy 4' x 8' feet trailers to build on. Anyone know if there is a supplier of these in the UK.

Anyone one who has made one I would love to hear any advice before I start building.

Cheers

Most are made on a T axle with a perimeter frame and using Indispension type rubber suspension units and hubs.
Easy enough to make or there are still small trailer manufacturers who make them. Trailer type approval knocked "off the peg" trailer chassis hard.

Some idea on the chassis.

The bend in the drawbar is not supposed to be there. Tow car had a head on collision.
