Actually, if you could devise a mod to use the oil pump mounting points I'd be even more interested. Mine's blanked off because I fitted an electric fuel pump, and from memory it would feed directly into the sump. It'd need some kind of reducer to fit the plastic filler pipe I think, but I'm sure a man of your calibre could sort something

I asked Mr. Baxter a while ago about the location of a temp sender unit in the sump because it's not something you'd ever see on heavy plant due to the sump dissipating heat like a radiator. I wasn't convinced by his reply (no offence meant by the way). Of all the places to record a measurement, why would you do it there?
Why would the glass be anything other than half full?

oil temp will vary in the system for sure
yes it may be 20 degrees hotter in the main galley but who cares?
Its only comapible if we all measure in a similar way which is only practical in the sump as close to the main volume of oil as possible.

That expains why I get oil spitting out into my air intake.All the breather towers I have ever seen are long since broken, the rubber membrane has perished and it is no longer a valve just an open breather so no loss cutting it open.

Too much and you have to question if you have worn or broken rings, you should only expect oil vapour.

I'm just informing you of other applications and reasons why they don't use this location. You could always join the even more fanatical forums frequented by Caterpillar lovers and ask for their opinions.....

measuring on the outside of the case is not measuring oil temperature, my pressure relief valve location is essentially doing this but in winter this area stays colder than the oil because it's so well cooled by cold air from the outside.

you can suck on the valve and get flow but if you suck suddenly and hard it restricts flow

I have fallen out with my oil breather and now have the breather inlet on the air pancake blocked off. My breather tower now feeds into a separator / collector can and vents to atmosphere. This has made it easier to control the Lpg mixture.
