Hello,
I have not been using my camper much since the end of September but I start it up once a week at least. It always starts up ok even if the battery is a bit low. Tonight I went out and started it as usual but was greeted by a loud clattering sound as the engine was running. It is not a good sound at all, but I cannot understand why it would just suddenly happen , especially as it was not there when I started it a few days ago and the vehicle has not moved. It is a 1.9 DG engine, and I would be grateful for anyones thoughts on this please ?

Tappets drained down.Give it a 20 minute drive, that will sort it.

Preferably on the open road at a steady 40-50mph. This issue is covered in the Haynes Manual ie it's normal after these vans are left sitting. Best to give it a regular run to keep it happy.R0B wrote:Tappets drained down.Give it a 20 minute drive, that will sort it.

Re: Strange and Unwelcome Engine Noise
Thanks for your words of wisdom everybody. You were right , it must have been the tappets. I took it out for a run on the motorway today between the two nearby Motorway junctions, and after about 7 miles all was good again, much to my relief.
So thanks again for an easy fix........

When this happens to us for the first time I turned the van off straight away and rushed onto club 80 90 and found out luckily our engine was not about to explode instead it was just the tappets
