Headlights MOT failure
Hi, my van (1982 T25) just failed its mot - fortunately only minor issues. However one of the fails was the direction of headlight beam. I replaced them a couple of years back due to corroded reflectors. Just stock round lights, I think from a Caravelle. The mechanic said the lights I've fitted look as though they were intended for a left hand drive vehicle. I didn't even think of that when purchasing them (Fleabay bargain). I was wondering if there was a way of altering them to make them uk road legal or perhaps just cut my losses and find another set? Thanks!

Yes, I've had an MOT inspector stick a piece of black tape on a bike headlamp and then tell me I'd stuck it on before I came in.
So if it's legitimate for "me" to stick it on then it's a legitimate pass.

My LHD headlights have passed the MOT for the last ten years too with tape covering the sqareish part of the lens (with square headlights it's on the right hand side of the lens).T3luestar wrote:Mine has passed an MOT for last ten years with tape fit ted.

If you look down this page. you'll see 7" units designed for the Land Rover Defender - they fit the T25 with very little modding and pee on Hella units
Anything from £29 a pair upwards

Good idea! As they don’t have sidelights included does it necessitate drilling a hold in the mastic reflector part to take a sidelight?

Re: Headlights MOT failure
I think the £39 ones do, although yes you could. I bought the £50 ones and the LEDs became my sidelights.
All their units are good with a precise beam pattern without stray light, and I'm only using stock bulbs in mine:

Said this many times, but the two main reasons T25 lights are so poor is:
a) Hella light units have long been superceded by computer-designed units with better cutoff and focus. Externally they look similar.
b) The stock power cables are insufficient which is why higher wattage bulbs could lead to overheating of wires and/or a fire.
All covered in detail in the WIKI
