Prob best to buy a new one now so you know how old it is , but generally speaking they last until they stop working

If you are going to Busfest, I've got a spare one (3yr old) and a lenth of brand new pipe still in bag (bought at Easter) you could have for a tenner.

I would be interested to know if anyone has had a gas regulator fail and whether it stopped passing gas or let gas through at bottle pressure.
I would rather it just stopped passing gas.

I think we'd know about it by now if they failed and allowed full pressure through. I imagine they have a fail-safe for that.

Re: Gas regulator - Does it need periodic renewal?
Generally a gas regulator should only need replacing when it fails. However, the hose it connects to requires changing periodically. It will have a date printed on the hose, this is a manufacture date, you should be replacing it after seven years. You would need to check this with your local gasman, he should know the most up to date regulations.

Was a gas service engineer for years & I can't recall ever having a failed regulator (governor). It'll be fine.
