Eberspacher BL2 Troubleshooting (FIXED) Spark generator
Hope someone can help, Been reading a couple of threads around restoring a BL2
I initially removed mine when I bought the van as quite a few bits were missing, mainly the ducting tinware and control box that was in the under seat area.
I have since got hold of the bits i needed with the exception on the 100mm ducting and got it rigged up on my workbench and at the mo have got the blower to work .
I do have a copy of the instruction manual but not any trouble shooting guide so am not quite sure of what stages there are to firing up.
also when wiring up the fuel pump, I can see no identifier for poss/neg
I have read in other posts that its possible to test the glow plug, but have not found any instructions on how to go about it.
So far when I try and fire it up I just get a click from the silver control box (when I first got this the internal glass fuse was blown)
Hope someone can advise

Re: Eberspacher BL2 Troubleshooting guide
I've PM'ed you a link to the troubleshooting manual for the B2L/D2L.

Thanks OBG
What's the procedure for testing glow/spark plug
I have removed from the side of the unit, Looks to be a fairly big gap too

Re: Eberspacher BL2 Troubleshooting guide
Glow plugs are usually 8 volt so don't test them with 12v! 6v will do for testing. Check resistance is around 0.5 - 1Ω or 3Ω - can't remember which on those plugs. You will have to run it to check the spark. I don't recall ever seeing a gap size though.
If you need to look at the ecu there are some points that usually need resoldering - at the bottom of the pic where the connecting tangs come through the board (not a B2L ecu) :
Also check the circuit board on the heater especially the spade terminals/soldering, they get hot and lose their grip and solder joints fail.

Re: Eberspacher BL2 Troubleshooting guide
Thanks OBG, I have not as yet stripped the casing down so will get onto that later
I have checked the glow plug resistance on the 2 spades and am getting around 2ohms
Will have to get hold of a 6 volt supply/battery
The plug gap is over 2mm, seems quite a lot to me
Also have primed the pump and applied 12v and I get a click. I am guessing the pump is controlled by pulses as repeated tries I finally ended up with a small spurt of fuel (not a lot, or very forceful though, but iu'm unsure what to expect from a fully functioning pump)
I have read in the other thread about replacement filters, you even posted a link up where to get one from.

Re: Eberspacher BL2 Troubleshooting guide
Ok, Blown a second 1 amp fuse in the ECU, The information I have says that it protects the blower motor but this is still working on cold only mode.

Re: Eberspacher BL2 Troubleshooting guide
Without checking - i think that they use a slow blow fuse, did you just use an ordinary one?

Re: Eberspacher BL2 Troubleshooting guide
Yep, The one that was in there was a 1.25a standard, But I am not sure if this was correct anyway. This unit was bought ages ago from someone on here, I have no idea as to its history but it came with that fuse in and it was blown to start with. Just hope the ECU is OK.
I fitted a 1 amp standard fuse as this was the closest match I had kicking about.
If I can find out what should be in there I'll get a batch in.
The solenoid in the ECU does click when turning to heat mode.

It should be marked on the ecu case.

Re: Eberspacher BL2 Troubleshooting guide
I only had a standard 1a so Maybe that's why it's blown. Will order some today
What I don't get tho, is with the fuse blown, the blower motor still runs on cold

Re: Eberspacher BL2 Troubleshooting guide
I should think that it is a different relay and circuit in the ecu for ventilation. Take a look through the wiring diagram.
