Safes - for passports, iPads etc
Has anyone fitted a safe of sorts in their van. Im thinking big enough to secure passports, iPads, GPS, credit cards etc when travelling overseas.
I know CVC do a Rocky Mountain westy under seat one, but it only has a 3 digit combination lock, which would only deter anyone under 4 years old... If it was a 4 digit one, or security key operated then it would be more interesting. The one advertised for a T5 is more the sort of thing.
The small CVC document safe is too small, or might be useful as an additional one elsewhere in the van.
So what have you fitted? I'm tempted to fit a regular domestic mini safe from B&Q or similar, bolted through the floor in place of a battery under the seat maybe or to van interior structure.

yep, floorboard safe bolted to floor with nyloc nuts inside, just loose enough to spin, proper thick steel maybe 2.5 -3mm and a multi lever lock
most cheap safes are paper thin metal
like this ( but grey) and a different lock style

Didn't Metalmickey fabricate one?
Why would the glass be anything other than half full?

Re: Safes - for passports, iPads etc
We have a similar safe bolted through the floor under the R&R back seat, I fitted it when we went to France as somewhere to put passports and a bit of cash. I put two lock nuts on the inside to stop someone just unbolting it from underneath. If you wanted to get into it I am sure it would not take long, just slows the little scroats down a bit and makes it less attractive.

Agreed that these will eventually give up their treasures, but its mainly to deter opportunists and tomaybe introduce a time penalty for the theft which makes it too risky for the thief.

Remember to have a sacrificial stash/location you're willing to give up/to be found, as a diversion and to prevent you having to reveal location of the real valuables if coerced.

Cool! I'll get back to you at the weekend. Will it secure with a padlock?
Also did you get any further with your locker design for the over cab luggage rack?
