I bought my heater directly from Propex and discussed the issue with their engineer prior to shipping. At no cost he fitted a 50mb jet to the heater so that I wouldn't have an issue fueling it from the fitted gas tank in my Westy. Propex could not have been more helpful.
Also, on a couple of occasions on refitting the gas pipes I have found that the heater would not fire up; this seems to have been solved following lighting the stove for a bit, then re-attempting to fire it up. Might be unrelated ....

No, not unrelated. It helps purge the supply pipe of air locks.

Apart from the implications of 'flame out' and other issues discussed earlier, you would be pumping in 30% more gas into the combustion chamber, so yes..30% more costly to run. But I'd be worried about burning something out and general safety (over-heating) although I'm sure there is protection.

That would depend on the size of the 50mb jet from propex, it may be smaller to give the same flow of gas and therefore same temp and consumption as the 30mb jet with 30mb regulator.

As mentioned before, not a good idea. They're not designed to run at 50mb. Some may work but that's way too much the pressure. If it does run it'll be inefficient, you'll probably get flame 'lift off' and it won't be good for the combustion chamber & will probably shorten the heater's life.
Is it just me or does a lot of this read as twaddle? Propex swapped the jet for a 50mbar one, which must be smaller so it passes the same amount of gas from a 50mbar supply as the 37mbar one does from a matched regulator. If the jet is matched to the supply, it'll run correctly. Or have I missed the point?

That's the way I see it ajsimmo.
If you don't change the jet to match your regulator or visa versa then you will have problems but if Propex supply a jet for a 50mb system I don't see a problem with flow/pressure etc if you use it with a westy tank.
