Post by shrig1969 »

I am looking for reasons why this is happening on just 1 tyre

This is only happening on the drivers side?

have had the tracking checked a few times in the past couple of years, with little or no adjustment needed.
Seem to recall this problem early on after purchasing her. New tyre fitted, tracking checked..... Assumed the problem was fixed but it keeps coming back!

Camber is wrong, as above could be due to wear in bushes, or eg hitting a pothole. May make the van pull slightly to one side as well.

Did have the camber adjusted some time back. Maybe over corrected it?
Please refresh me with correct setting.

According to Haynes the camber should be 0 deg + or - 0.5 deg

Just done a quick assessment using a spirit level on the front wheels and it seems they are complete opposites.
One positive and one negative camber.
Judging by the tyre wear, the passenger side seems ok, so I would like to alter the drivers side to match.
Is it a job worth having a go at?
If so could someone provide a few pointers. I know which bolt adjusts it but once loosened where do I go from there?

First make sure the top and bottom bushes are not worn out.
Then it is best to check the basic central setting you never know who has been buggering about with it.
The flats on the eccentric washers and spindle should be vertical and face to the centre of the vehicle with the lobe to the bottom. More often this will give the correct camber setting (standard height suspension).

I mark the spindle with a dab of paint opposite the flat so I know where the central position is. Then you just turn the spindle either way to adjust.

Thanks for that.
To check the basic setting is correct, I would have to remove the spindle.
Is it under any tension?

Silly question but this would be checked with the wheel off?

Can any one answer that?
Is the camber checked and adjusted wheel on or wheel off?

Wheel on, with vehicle on the ground and suspension settled.
