205 70 14 is the original size.

Re: Vw carat alloys tyre size
Is there specific tyres for a van compared to a car?
If so which ones would people recommend.
Thanks

Just make sure the tyres you put on are "C" (commercial) rated.

Or Google 205 70 14C

Re: Vw carat alloys tyre size
They need to be suitably weight rated, 97 or above, or C (commercial) rated.
I recently had some Nexen Rodian A/T 2 tyres which are 100 rated, not a lot of choice in 205/70r14. They seem OK so far, but haven't done many miles.
Spent too long composing that!

Re: Vw carat alloys tyre size
I have these wheels and I opted for the standard profile rather than the "70" profile.
The tyres are therefore slightly taller and as a consequence they fill the arches better and give a "tougher" look (iirc) plus they raise the gearing slightly (about 10% iirc). Some say that raising the gearing (which means less revs at any given road speed) is not always a good thing and does not always save fuel, but my van is a fairly light tin-top camper with a healthy DG motor, so I find it works very much to my advantage, more relaxed cruising RPM and slightly better MPG.
If your van is a heavy underpowered Hi-Top it might not work so well.

Re: Vw carat alloys tyre size
I have had the been radian 205 70 14 for two years, average wear and grip, look nice, speedo reads approx 5kph slow. Next time I'll go for 205 14 C as thougher and slightly taller.

Do you mean you fitted 205 70 14 non-commercial tyres and these read 5kph slower?
