Hello all
I have been an absent member here for a few years and have finally remembered my password . . .
I had a T25 a few years back, sold it and missed it badly so am now venturing to get another. Going to see an ex-rental van at the weekend which has had a golf 1.9 diesel fitted. The owner did not fit the engine and does not know whether gearbox was replaced at same time. So I'm wondering how I work out if it has the original or not?
Also wondering if I'm right to think that the engine swap would make the bus reliable enough for big trips? I used to travel internationally in my old one - I live in Wales and occasionally made it into England without needing a tow.
thanks for reading!

Re: Returning to T25 world
Several T25 owners and traders I've spoken to prefer/would only go for a van with a replacement engine, so usually a 1.9D or TD. I personally wouldn't buy a T25 with any of the original engines with the possible exception of the 1.6TD. You can't be sure of the providence/history of many old engines. At least with the diesel replacements you get relative youth and you should also generally better all round performance. The first thing I did, after taking all the usual checks when buying, was take it to a specialist , in this case Mario, to give it a good going over, and recommend any work to improve the conversion.

So, how long did it take you to remember your password?
Why would the glass be anything other than half full?

Thanks for the advice Anaconda - I think I would be happy with that diesel engine - had them in other VWs and have always lasted very well. Will try to find a specialist in my area.
