Two Vent Tubes?

Post by AlandAnn »

Good Afternoon,

Just recently purchased a VW 1989 Transporter. :D

I've been having a quick look round to see what needs doing before spring / summer next year;

I crawled under the engine bay and noticed that there are 2 six - ten inch (2 inch diameter) open ribbed :oops: tubes, further investigation put's them in the area of the rear driver side light cluster!

Can anyone please put my mind at ease as to what these are?

Prob should say what engine it is? Presuming it's a right hand drive?

:roll: It's a petrol 1.6 RHD, I've ruled out the alien infestation for the time being.

thanks

Sound like warm air pipes that take heat from the exhaust to the air intake - got them on the 1.9wbx, dunno about 1.6 AC

Why would an 89 have a 1.6 air-cooled engine? Must have been waiting to be registered for a long time.

Maybe he means 1.6 diesel?

Oops, my mistake, it's a 1.9 petrol.
The pipes are definitely not a factory fit, they just sit there.

Yep, air ducts to/from the warm air unit behind the o/s/r light cluster ... not required in our relatively mild climate and often removed.

Thought so. They break up at the exhaust connection and are then sometimes tucked up behind the light cluster for some reason(how I found mine when I bought the van). As Ian says, not needed so can be removed completely unless you plan to regularly travel to very cold climates.
