advice on a big leisure battery please

Hi all.can anyone recommend a big leisure battery to fit next to the lpg tank so size not an issue,have seen a exide battery for 98 quid,115ah,any one know if this is big enough or should I get bigger if poss,and would you fit an electric hook up for the odd overnite charging up,and an invertor,thanks to all

Hi Ray63 Most people have I think a 110Amp battery and a split charge system and go with that

I'm going to attempt to fit an electric hook up can anyone recommend one?
I have no electrics in my van at the mo so relying on battery lighting.

Better if you can aim for a more self-sufficient system. I recently got electric hookup but heaven knows when I'd ever actually use it so its going. I like to camp off-grid all the time so use low energy stuff and gas for the 3-way fridge so power demands are extremely low. I did buy a generator recently purely for those occasions when I'm really stuck but there aren't too many places that tolerate them. Solar is getting cheaper so that may be an option. Theres some good deals on ebay for 110amp leisure batteries and as you're not trying to squeeze one under a seat, you won't have to worry about dimensions do bigger choice. There are some very good ones around the £60 mark. If you're relatively new to this, thats the best advice I can give.

Thanks CovKid I tend to stay on campsites so it may work for me. I'll definitely go for a leisure battery too but in the interim I thought this would be a quicker fix. I've got a split relay charger so could I could switch between the two??

Hi - we are currently travelling in china and have been away 5 months and are completely self sufficient with 3 leisure batteries. As i am not the expert I wont try to interpret our set up but here is the chap who fitted the system and he will set you straight. He is an electrician and a VW owner and solar specialist so you are going to be in the best possible hands with him. Ray, once you have got your new leisure battery installed, have a look at item 7 in the wiki article about split charging etc. It's at the bottom of the page and tells about how to prolong the life of your new battery.
