The last two MOT testers I've had dealings with were not remotely interested in the e-mark, but they WERE interested in aim and pattern. Providing they match the expected/prescribed pattern, they won't complain. Interestingly during my recent test, he said he thought they were a great improvement over the Hellas due to the increased visibility of the LEDs and the sharper focus of the beam pattern. He just kept asking where he could get some the same. :D

True enough if you venture or live abroad although you could swap them out pre-holiday.

Stuff that, one headlight more than I paid for entire camper. :D

Wait five years and they'll be a tenner each.

They are a bit rich. Emerging tech and all that.
Probably the same price as a pair of headlamp units for a modern car though...

Perfect timing finding this thread just as I noticed one of my headlights is cracked. The LR set looks good.

Looking through the thread, many of the pics don't seem to be showing for me. Is that just my connection? How difficult is this for a DIY numpty?

Would be interesting in seeing your setup Ralph and chatting with you if you ever have ten mins free in "Beduf".

If you want a nose before that, van is parked in Saunders Rd close to town - until 2.30pm anyway. You'll be able to see my funky DRL ones.

I am thinking the DRL or angel eye versions are a must, cheers for dropping round. Very nice setup and I will be getting some.

Poor headlights have always been a problem on v-dubs, not helped by the now-dated light units, and the fact that power to them is via the same relatively small cable that supplies everything else. Its definately a two-pronged approach (new units and better supply) but unfortunately many just assume fitting brighter bulbs is the cure. Nightbreaker bulbs are good, but I think the correct order of headlight upgrades should be:

1. Fatter cable from battery to dash
2. Replace lens-based Hella units with modern reflector-based ones (brighter & better beam pattern)
3. Install relays
4. Fit Nightbreaker or similar bulbs - but only if needed. (1,2, and 3 was enough for me)

Having tried it, number 4 on its own made nowhere near as much improvement as the first three combined. Brighter bulbs just aren't needed unless you have square lights and are effectively stuck with old technology.

I've ordered these, and some rings from ebay... I always liked the look of angel eyes, seems a good cheap alternative. :)
