standard tyres

Post by Santa79 »

I need to replace the tyres on the van. It has standard wheels on it and I am having trouble trying to find the right tyres.
Now, they are supposed to be 185/14C.
Most of the tyres I find are noted differently, and after looking on the wiki I have realised I need an 82 profile tyre. Most places will only do 80 or 85 profile tyres... Can both of these be used? If so... What would be best?

Ta, and I know this has probably been asked a million times but I haven't been able to find anything myself..!

185R14C's are usually 80 or 82 profile depending on the tyre manufacturer but both are perfectly ok to use....as is the 85 profile.

The 85 profile is 16mm larger than the 82 series and 18mm larger than 80 series so will alter the speedo reading and gearing but only very slightly.

Try Camskill and Tyretraders as they tend to be the most competitive with prices but don't forget your local tyre place as they may be able to price match?

I guessed that 80 or 85 would be ok...
And I have found a place near me that will fit 80 profile tyres for £52 each. I could do with all four changing, but due to moving house in the next few weeks, the front two will have to be good enough!

If it doesn't state the profile in the size, it's a nominal 80-82% profile.

There's oodles of different brands in 185/14C.

You don't mention what brand those £50 tyres are. Cheap tyres are usually a total false economy.
