Trailer width?

Post by ODubhain82 »

Hi,

So, we've decided it's about time we got a move on and get ourselves a
camper. Would have loved to get a Bay, and could have probably have afforded one
a few years ago, but put it off until the time was right. Doh!

Anyway, I'm going to look at a t25 on Monday and in case it turns out to be ok
I need a way to transport it home. Apparently it drives fine but doesn't have tax.
It's also about 1 1/2 hours from my house so I don't want to fall foul of the law.

I have access to a trailer for the weekend but it usually carries a "cherry-picker"
and I suspect it's not wide enough for the camper.

Can anyone tell me the width of a t25 across the wheels?

Regards.

<thinks> Ah, bugger - Monday's a bank holiday, isn't it? I was going to suggest taxing it at the nearest post office on Monday...

Have you got somewhere off the road to park it at your place? If so, then your only risk is the drive - and so long as it's insured and tested, you're most unlikely to get a tug. If you do, explain that you've just bought it <waves receipt & new keeper slip> but can't tax it since it's a BH - but intend to do so first thing Tuesday morning. At the very worst, there's no points involved. I'd just do it.

Bank holidays, here in Ireland, means more cops out and about as the accident rate goes up on the roads here.

Not inclined to chance it 'cos it doesn't have a DOE ( MOT ) either.

Trying to organise a towing bar at the moment. Can't use a rope anymore apparently.

Might be a waste of time anyway. The asking price is only €1,000 (£850) so may be driving
home empty handed.

Ah, so the legalities are a totally different kettle of fish.

OK, that - too - makes it a different matter.

Over here, it has to be legal to drive for you to tow wheels-down legally.

Then you start to get into the whole weights thing - it's the thick end of two ton, so you need a trailer that can cope with that, plus a tow vehicle that'll cope with that...

Not sure of the actuall law but I figure I have a better chance at benefit
of the doubt if I'm not just driving along.
A cop might figure I'm driving around with no tax or DOE the whole time.
But if I'm being towed it's different, as who would do that to get around?

Where are you based, I got a T4 on a transporter from Galway to Kildare for 200 Euro. Also bought a T25 and a friend drove it from Dublin using his garage plates. It's not a problem driving with no tax or DEO if you just bought but you will have to produce them at the cop shop within 28 days. The main problem is insurance, it has to be camper insurance (check out Dolmen insurance)if you get it insured you will have to have it DOE'd within 2 weeks or the insurance is canceled. If the van is only a grand I doubt it would be ready for a DOE having said that if it drives and not too much rust (check all the arches and sills) a grand could be a bargain. I paid 1600 for a tub of "pooh" (it's all good now) and sold a lot of the interior stuff for about 800, including the heater, fridge, bed and power supply.

Got the call about 15 minutes after leaving the house to travel up to see it.

Could have been worse, could have been an hour and a half in.

Lousy to have it stolen and I hope she gets it back. She was warned though.

If anyone comes across it could they draw my, or the vendor's attention to it please?
I have the vendor's phone number as obviously we were in contact.

Here is a link to some photos of it
