There seems to be quite a few configurations for diesel engines, could we get a list together of what people use?
I've got a 1.6 td jx no power steering and 65amp alternator and ditched the two belt system to a one belt so I could take up the slack using the alternator.
found a 850x10mm fits fine.

Only downside is need to be recede above 1500rpm to extinguished alternator light.
Not perfect but keeps charge and no problems yet.

recede = revved

Yes, mine also, then alternator comes on line

But do wait until oil pressure has come up all around engine first though, a good few seconds from a cold startup, else you'll hear atvery worrying rattly sound :)

I have about 5 years worth of Camper&Bus, including all Keeping Your Bus Alive, and quite a few Camper & Commercial magazines. Before I give the hard copies away (not the KYBA!) I am going to scan all the relevant 'how-to' articles in. Do you want them for the WIKI?

Can you check, they may be odl enough not to be worry, but if so, yes, esp. anything air-cooled would be good..

I'm in the process of doing it for my own files anyway, as the stack of mags just takes up space, so let me know which Mod to email the folder to and they can be the clubs moral compass in terms of plagiarism!

If you are going to scan then jpg works best for the wiki. Ta. I have some stuff off site on google docs for members only. Sponsorship. Rather than fearing copyrite reprisals we could approach and say can we publish with blessing with a link back to their site (like we always should do anyway) a contribution to 8090 site fees wouldnt go amiss for driving traffic to their site maybe. All a bit thin end of the coorporate wedge though.

Early Coolant Systems - There were two different types

Recently my expansion tank sprung a leak and I found that quite a number of my pipes etc were obsolete yet quite a lot of early pipes were still available and this is how I found out that VW used two different early cooling systems. So now my cooling system has a degree of future proofing in case something goes wrong in the Highlands again

When VW made the first watercooled T25 they created an early cooling system but after about a year they changed a few things. They changed the expansion bottle and bracket as well as the pipes that came from the bottle to the waterpump and the long metal pipe that goes accross the engine by the carb. They also changed the two long coolant pipes that went around the back of the engine as well as the bleed valve.

MK1 early system parts are long obsolete
Mk2 early system parts are all available apart from the expansion bottle bracket (2nd hand??)

Expansion bottle and two moulded pipes that run from it (note ports on bottle are offset

I have attached some images

First is the new bushes (2 per van) and coupling
Second is where they fit on the van
Third is the old knackered coupling I removed

It's pretty straight forward thing to fix. Just make sure you mark the positions on the spline when dismantling the column so you get it back in the same place.
