Relay 43 where are you?

Post by nicktennear »

When I got the van the home made lpg system had a bypass of the thermostat and the temp gauge didn't work. When the lpg was reinstalled properly this was made good and worked well for ages until today. There's coolant in both tanks so after searches and wiki time I went to test relay 43. I can't find it. Any ideas? I've got a 21 and a 24 and a mess of wires.

Sorry for adding yet another coolant thread. Thanks.

Still haven't found the relay but now instead of the coolant warning light staying on and the temp gauge flying right after a minute of running it blinks as it should goes out and the temp gauge stays put. It's amazing that when my van works I feel paranoid. If the engine stopped backfiring on gas I'd think it was bust. Thanks all.

Simony - that is really interesting!!

My little red light has never worked....but I couldn't find a relay either....

so, its def a number 43? I have two relay mounts on the body near the earth crown on my 1984 van...but both are empty. I did try a 43 relay in there....but it made no difference. Couldn't put a piccie up could you??

see here http://forum.club8090.co.uk/viewtopic.p ... y#p7548790

Thanks!!

Never know...might get my level indicator working yet!!

Mine is the later version with relay 43 (actually it is not a relay but a fairly complex electronic circuit in there) on the main panel.

However, mine doesn't work :(

The light flashes and the gauge works with the "relay" in, or out.

I REALLY want the low level sensor to work.

Tried a spare 43 I had around = no difference, but I think they both might be faulty.
I say this because I reckon, as they are not relays but electronic chips & circuits that they are prone to electronic failure, esp if someone has plugged them into the wrong place and sent voltages around the circuits in ways VW never intended !

There is an alternative box that does the same work, cannot remember it's number at this time though...
E D I T = It's numbered 42 :) and is still available from VW according to this thread = http://forum.club8090.co.uk/viewtopic.p ... +#p7395414" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Have you tried making this circuit below ...... (it at least gave me the confidence that the module was good and it was probably my van wiring that was fubar) ......

How it works is explained in the posting below ....

Thanks for that :ok

but...

I don't know what happened but this thread got a double post by Simon after over 2 years of silence :?

I did get mine working and in fact I am now a bit of an expert at that whole circuit after having to "learn it" to fix mine (and a mates).
