Are YOU bouncing eMails with Out-of-Office auto-replies!!!

Post by HarryMann »

From Announcements.... Your registered eMail addresses - *** RULES ***

http://forum.club8090.co.uk/posting.php ... &p=7354861

.........
..............
Also, PLEASE, do not use an eMail address where you set it to 'Out of Office auto-reply' !
..........
.........
........

This one was put in BOLD for a reason... because people forget or are ignorant of the implications of things they do, or hand over to automatic systems
OoO auto-replies are effectively 'bounced mails' which inundate forums like ours (with 10,000 members)

So when you get a reply to a subscribed thread or a Notification of a new Private Message etc. .. it is WE who get infomed you are on a jolly somewhere, which WE do not want to know

Thanks, please exclude 80-90 notification address from your Office Email OoO AR Rules or if you cannnot then don't use a business email address

Thanks

My Omya email does this but it's regulated by my calendar .... and you (or the rest of the admins) have my phone numbers or they're camping in the next van to me anyway

Shouting PLEASE is a bit different than just shouting anything that comes into your head

Yup, sure is when the holiday time comes around.
It's server bandwidth and traffic, as well as a nuisance that pollutes genuinely useful notifications & warnings

Would be nice to ignore all failure notifications, and point then into thin air.. perhaps we will, and stop shouting about it

I dunno why you don't just turn it off. If I want to see if anyone's PM'd me or replied to any of my posts I just log on and have a look.....

I've reset the 'Notify me on new private messages:' to 'No' so that's me in the clear

when i got back from cornwall, i had 72 emails from the forum, comprising of OoO Notes, Bouncing Forwarding , incorrectly replied to forum emails and imaginary addresses that dropped in the catchall , added to the 127 membership emails, 44 " confirmation" emails and "doh, i cant remember if i registered or not" emails, and the usual 10 or so i cant login emails , then YES it is worth shouting about.....
