Rustoration
Spent the evening remedying my over enthusiastic grinding. Have to grind that down next. Maybe my new grinder will be easier? Certainly smaller and lighter, and has a lock-on rather than a lock-off switch, so easier to handle.

Weld, grind, weld, grind, repeat
You'll get there in the end. I was trying to work out which bit you are on now.

Re: Rustoration
Just the edge of the floor that the inner sill is fitted to. Slow progress, financial blockage at the moment. However interest inthe mini has hotted up again , and if I sell it I’m allowed to use the money to buy panels etc for the van!
So I’ll finish the edge of the floor all the way to the front, cut and repair the front face of the outrigger, then get the sills, jp, reinforcement piece for the c pillar, and some thicker metal to remake the b and c pillars, and the b pillar outer, oh it all sounds so simple!!!

Re: Rustoration
Just turned my regulator on (and off again). Mine is yellow up to 10 l/m, green to 15 l/m and red after that.
Somebody borrowed my gear and made it sizzle like it should, my weldings been better since, currently set at 12 l / min

Re: Rustoration
Sizzle, that’s a good description. It’s not easy to set it up a welder correctly and you need different settings for different thickness of metal. Probably a good idea to write the settings down that work well so when you need to change it you have a reference to go back to. Wire speed is classic example.

Re: Rustoration
Is it necessary to be doing so much welding and grinding on that floor edge repair, a tack weld an inch apart and some paint in the join without grinding would suffice. Its going to be covered over.

Re: Rustoration
It’s not covered. The join is inboard of the inner edge of the inner sill, and this piece of floor is what the inner sill is fixed to, with spot welds. I’d rather make it into a coherent piece of metal. It will be sealed underneath y seam sealant, and I’ll seal it on top too to protect from fridge condensation. The full weld is to make it stronger. My recollection is that metalmick8y had a full weld if he did this piece, but we all know how reliable memory is

Re: Rustoration
Lidl have twist knot wire cup brushes and sanding pads for angle grinders.
£6 for two. Loads better than my wire brush for my drill.

Re: Rustoration
But even the wire brush struggles with the “sculptural” quantities of filler on my b-post...
...a chisel is quicker!!
Not doing my b-post, just having a look at it. Still waiting to sell the mini. Timewasters... So just cleaning up, and having a think about the order I’ll do things in. I’ll start to clean up the roof, and investigate making repair sections, don’t need any money for that.
