Coast to coast - the aftermath!

Post by Simon Baxter »

Patrick, Dai and Neil set off from Brickwerks at about 6pm, they should be there for 8ish.
I've put the back doors on the Iltis, put some fuel in, it has a 90l tank, I chickened out when it got to £100! that was only 70l...
New AVO adjustable dampers, sound deadening under the bonnet (Stan will thank me for that!) and the air intake plumbed up properly have all made it a bit quieter, lets see how it behaves once it leaves Huddersfield! something that it's not done before...

Some Photos from the 'lucky' team who all made it without injury or mishap. Stories to fallow I'm sure...

A&E at Huddersfield brilliant, cheers to them  just hope Warrington as quiet and on the ball

Good to see that the resolute few made it without further mishap yesterday :ok

Limping home to Brizzle, just off M5 to fill coolant. Must be 7th time in 4 days! Thankfully no more clouds of smoke, but super rapid engine swap needed before Eire. Just glad I picked up a spare runner 2 weeks ago.

I limped away from the event yesterday with Aidan and Baxter, fish and chips in Settle were good. Not come off badly as Aidan, but engine bar got knocked adrift on first lane Sunday, engine hanging at funny angle, thankfully Baxter behind me spotted it real quick, and I fixed it quick with some big repair washers. Spent lovely evening at a quiet rural sleepy spot. After I got home noticed a big dent in the Smallcar alloy sump, and a slight oil weep, but I'm sure it can be TIG'ed good. Engine protection will be given a looking at, plus I'm considering a modest lift (still bog stock suspension on the kombi).

A few pics - http://gallery.me.com/harmonywood#10081 ... &view=grid including vid of Aidan driving the same steps as Lughole 20 mins after breaking his wrist. He's hard I tell thee!

Thanks to the organisers for making the weekend an adventure. Although we didn't reach the east coast it was still memorable. I'll have to do it again to make sure I complete it. Spesh thanks to Matt, Dai, Neil and Pickles for the hand holding when my engine when capput(ish). I made it back home at 95kms/hr with only 1 stop for coolant top up. I need my DJ swapping before Eire. Help sought - http://forum.club8090.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=86783
