North Devon meet Nov 2009

Post by syncrosimon »

A fantastic day on the Devon Somerset border. Very well organised by John, Ash and Kelly. And a really good bunch of people to boot.
John owner and main man behind the new syncrospares heads the convoy through the rural North Devon Countryside.

Whoooaaah what a great day! :ok
Thanks to all the effort put it by Jon et al. Respect guys!

Al definitely has the Kahuna award of the day. I'm looking forward to seeing more pictures as there is definitely a calendar shot there. I must admit I was not up to it. I had visions of stalling half way across and the water pouring in through the sliding door..... (Sorry Roger....i know you were dying to give it a go  )

Torchy deserves a hearty slap on the back too......on those road tyres. Fair play man.

So when's the next one!?!

Rich.

p.s. Patrick and i did not escape without incident. I turned off the motorway at Bristol and totally lost the clutch. Turns out the damn slave cylinder had misplaced its mount bolts. Now that is a up there in the top 3 fun problems to solve on a syncro in the dark and wet......hmmm lesson learnt.....always carry spare 13mm bolts and nuts so that you don't have to salvage from elsewhere!!!

The GPS track worked out too. Here's a Google earth picture of the route.

Was a great day out!

Thanks again to all the peeps at Syncrospares for organising everything and for the replacement headlights! (best to let your headlights cool down before you go deep wading it would seem, thermal shock and all that)

In retrospect, that crossing shouldve been driven slower, i was having a bit too much fun with a heavy right foot really, which made for some very interesting pics/video, but technically not the best wading example. Mightve got a bit less water in through the heater vents with a bit less speed also.

But it was so much fun!!

Well worth the journey done from Herefordshire especially when coffee, biscuits and mince pies are being offered upon arrival.
Many thanks to John, Mrs John (sorry, memory lapse) Ash, Kelly and our attentive waiter in training.
I had a thoroughly absorbing time as Roger's co-pilot in his new SIKA watching as he rung the very last horse out of the 1.9 WBX, it won't be long before I get my one but I will be converting mine to diesel, PD of course.
Lanes seem to get progressively more interesting as the day worn on, the last one being the best though that was probably due to the fading light, lots of mud and eerie lights approaching from the opposite direction.
I have my pencil ready to note the date of the next adventure into Lorna Doone country or is that in the Somerset bit of Exmoor?
