Syncronauts Spring Event -Thanks

Post by HarryMann »

...to all those who came and supported this event - I felt we had a great site all to ourselves with many challenges (ruts, water and traction mainly) as will hopefully become apparent by a few videos. We certainly had some laughs and learnt a lot about reading the ground ahead, spadework, towing and winching. Oh and good teamwork I thought!

Thanks also to everyone who attended helping one another out in and around the campsite wherever they could. Matt for driving me back to Berko to get AndyMc sorted for Sunday, Sharon and Jenny for organising the things men seem incapable of, and especially AndyMc and Simon for helping Jenny and myself pack away at end of day...

A lovely 90 acres of Buckinghamshire that's got to be worth considering for next year ?

The new Syncronauts barbecue was a godsend too (no slipped discs!)

Attendees:

Andy Simpson (Sika Syncro)
Andy McClements (Sika Syncro)
Matt & Torz and family
MattFlint (Sika Syncro)
Johnny (Quadbike)
Chris & Rose and family (Shogun)
Pete and Sharon and family (Doka Syncro)
Doug Brett (T4 Syncro)
Simon TMT (and motorbike!)
John Morril and Eric (Syncro camper)
Clive & Jenny (Doka Syncro)
GaryD & son (Saturday with 2WD Syncro)

NB. 10 excellently behaved children & teenagers!

Damage: Water ingress (x 4); one broken rear driveshaft, one broken front outer CVJ, one pulley belt, no body damage!

Have to say in case Mr Baxter is listening...

Re:

Image

...the engine kept running with exhaust and turbo totally submerged for over 10 minutes this time whilst recovery was organised (burble burble, gurgle gurgle)

We measured at least 18" of water then the stick went in about 4-5" of clay slurry, and it killed a Series 1 Landie engine the week before.

To everyone's amazement, AndyS's Green Monster mTdi went through (both ways), just resisting the temptation to bog down.. there was definite paddle-steamer effect helping at one point, with those big tyres pumping huge volumes of water rearwards.

Then to everyone's total astonishment, Matt Flint also managed to get his singlecab through too...

Brave fellows

Yes, the slurry had a certain smell about it

but with a tap and hose and a good overnight drying wind, was clean as a whistle the next day... inside anyway.

The weekend's driving revolved around
.... can we get some or all of our vehicles up there, by hook or by crook, by winch or by spade?

Ans: Well, we didn't have to fetch the tractor once!

Great spectator sport too!

I've had a really great weekend, thanks to Clive and Jenny for organising the event. I have 180 pictures to sort out and endless film footage.

And for the first time ever I got to drive LOADS :D :D

Syncronaughts Spring Event-Thanks

Thanks for a great weekend. Learnt a lot (mainly about being recovered! )
Definately need aggressive tyres and ground clearance on this site. No doubt people have got some good pics of my vehicle in the stinking slurry. I REALLY don`t want to see mud for a while.
The new BBQ worked really well--a good bit of kit.

Great weekend, really enjoyed myself even though syncroless.. it was good in that respect as I didnt have to get mine stuck too...
But i could help out getting muddy connecting tow straps etc etc...

Havent checked the pics and vids yet, but hoping there will be some crackers in there....

Massive thanks to Clive and Jenny for feeding and watering me (big down side to the bike, limited carrying capacity) and letting me have a pootle in the doka.. and to Andy S for taking me for some extreeeme attacks on the countryside...   that was ace......

Deffo aggressive tyres are a must.. and then followed by ground clearance.. oh and prob a good idea to make things watertight...

Next time Roger then... hope you're feeling better.

This one of Torz's about sums it up for me:

Having just got back from seeing the Annie Leibowitz film, I'd say that's a great photo!
