Re: Salisbury plain?
Don't know Ian but the mv was still running underwater till I switched it off !!!
Drained the mayo off overnight, replenished with fresh oil, took the plugs out and blasted the water out and hey presto as good as new !!!!
Low tec, low comp. no worries !!

Re: Salisbury plain?
Ah. Switching off was the mistake there. Keep it running at all costs!
Check the snorkel duct for leaks

Re: Salisbury plain?
Well done Baz. Switching off at the right moment was a very smart thing to do. Now your engine lives on.
It was great to meet you and the gang.
Big thanks to those who organised this one - we had a riot.

Re: Salisbury plain?
Can anyone tell me a bit more about the radios / CB's you were using ?
I'd like a hand held unit to attach an external aerial to like Baz's. Any recommendations?
Not sure if were talking PMR446 analogue/digi or marine radios ..
Help appreciated !

Midland 98+ is the cost effective weapon of choice for many.
Dirt cheap, does the job esp. with a well-earthed 5' stinger

Re: Salisbury plain?
Just a quick update on the 'Syncrosub', no problems apart from the alternator failing due to being swamped by sludge
It's resting as I don't want to use it in anger until I drain all the oils in case of any water ingress, I'm sure the wading system
will keep the water out of the transmission but better to be safe than sorry.
I can't work on the van yet because Hil wants her TT fixed first
and her T4 needs some tlc. Oh and my daughter wants a new engine in her Golf !!!!!
No peace for the wicked !!

Re: Salisbury plain?
Finally got round to draining the trannies today, no sign of water, oil nice and clean, small Christmas tree on the gearbox drain plug, all in all well chuffed.
Ready for the next adventure.

Re: Salisbury plain?
Good effort. So we need to identify where the water got in, seal it up, fit better tyres and try again?

Re: Salisbury plain?
My money is on a perished/disintegrated snorkel corrugated pipe.

Re: Salisbury plain?
I checked and re-sealed the snorkel some time ago and there was only a small amount of water in the air filter, presumably sucked through the drain hole in the elbow.
However there was about 3 ltrs. of water in the crankcase which presumably entered via the dipstick and/or the oil filler tube ?????? (the water was very deep)!!

Re: Salisbury plain?
Blimey! Crankcase breather is the only other way in...
Is the plasic bit of the oil filler loose?
