Agreed, good turn out of adventure vehicles and enthusiastic owners. Syncro crew were well represented, would loved to have hung around for a beer but under orders. No LT's but that vehicle size was filled by a handful of Iveco Dailys. Great homebrew skills on show inside one or two. Sorry Aidan ....still got a case of Kentish ales in the boot

Re: ADVENTURE OVERLAND SHOW - Club Display Stand?
Got back a little while ago, got to say that the Adventure Overland event was one of the best things I have been to in ages...
It was great to venture outside of the VW scene and explore more of what having a 4wd is all about. I especially enjoyed all the things on sale and put all the light weight camping products that you see at VW shows to shame with every thing from heavy duty BBQ's real quality awning/living area set ups, racks, straps, winches, everything bush craft the list is endless. Really interesting people to talk to also that have actually done real trips in their 4x4s and use them for their intended purpose and everyone pulling some inspiration from each other.
I think by the 80-90 Syncronauts getting involved in this sort of thing rather than the stale same old same of VW shows etc is a big push forward to more interesting things and I cant wait until the next one
Jed

Re: ADVENTURE OVERLAND SHOW - Club Display Stand?
Cracking show, well laid back and very friendly, time to chat, maybe make a sale but lots of sharing of information and resources as well as the inspiration
I really enjoyed seeing how much the other vehicle owners appreciated ours as well as how much we liked theirs, Syncro still best for my needs though I reckon,
must buy lottery ticket this week cos really the only thing stopping us going long distance is time and money
great to see everyone from here there - did anyone meet the person in the 2wd T3 ?
big thanks to Max

Re: ADVENTURE OVERLAND SHOW - Club Display Stand?
Did anyone make it to a seminar ? / slide show etc. there were a few that I would have loved to have seen.
Re: ADVENTURE OVERLAND SHOW - Club Display Stand?
Yes,
Paul and I heard the first half of the LRDG Egypt/Libya desert revisit (70 years later in similar Jeeps)... marquee was too small for us to all get in though, had a quick word with the speaker next day next to his Jeep, got an Overland Magazine, he estimated that article would appear on their (4 of them, incl the Egyptian prof who knew where some of the wrecks were)
Also, heard about 5 minutes of the seminar (in larger hangar on Sunday), about travelling overland through the 'stans. Kurdistan fine, almost any other 'stan, it seemed he was saying not , Kazikistan or Turkmenistan I believe lucky to be able to even find diesel or petrol, let alone purchase it.
Believe, Paul & Jenny got a chance sometime Sunday to listen into another one...
Great opportunity to listen to some very experienced overlanders as well as other speakers... so seminars a great idea, perhaps their publicity and organisation not quite as good as it could be, but plenty were attending by the Sunday.

Re: ADVENTURE OVERLAND SHOW - Club Display Stand?
The guy with the white Iveco pictured above kitted it out on a tight budget, all his own work, very tidy job, cap off to him
Re: ADVENTURE OVERLAND SHOW - Club Display Stand?
Yes Jes,
That was Graham from Dorsetshire with his 4x4 Iveco Daily... likely to be visiting this 'ere forum in the not too distant future.
He dropped by Sat night for (another beer), having met Richard and Lee at the barbecue... and we did have a great late Sat night craic around Lee's new multi-fuel chimney fire (with Rich's water heater attached; we awarded 9/10 for that and I think 7/10 for the fire, more coal less wood mate )
Paul, jenny and myself dropped by next morning for coffee....
Did Graham mention Poplar ply, very lightweight, not that easy to find nor buy in small quantities, but quite good strength/weight with very few knots. So he used that (15mm I think) and a thinner birch ply, which is quite a tradional ply facing, and verystrong too.

Re: ADVENTURE OVERLAND SHOW - Club Display Stand?
We met two guys (on our original display area, more on that saga later ) who were old overland hands, with their 110 Landies both with Searle roofs.. below. These were made by R.J. Searle, Sunbury-on-Thames in the late 60's, 700 or so were built and they seemed to me to be the progenitor of the pop-top roof.. ? Very impressed with the simplicity although apparently to make them again (the raising roof) they were quoted £7,000 by Dormobile
The Carawagon website
One of the guys (Stephen) gave Jenny some info on manufcaturer of awnings and free heaters for on-board hot water.
The expeditions were frequently led by John Horne
Ah! Here they are, Land Rover Classic Campers, Robin, Steve, Philip and John Horne (who was a speaker at one of the seminars)
