Winterising the bus

Post by RCN »

Hi all
I've had a look around here, the archive , and wiki , but still no luck...i assume i've overlooked it, but...
How do you go about winterising your bus for the winter? She'll be stored outside.
If there are any links would someone post them here? I know i'm a bit early, but i figured i'd start preping and get ready for when i have some time later.
Cheers all!

If you have the correct mixture of anti freeze in the cooling system you should be fine! If your unsure drain it out... and make a note and stick it to the dash so you dont forget when you come to start it next year! make sure you drain it propperly, you could store it for next year if you wanna save a few pennys and its clean enough?
If you want to be safe disconnect the earth from the coil so no-one can theve it..
Dont do what i did and leave it in a hedge or it'l get all dirty etc!
Cant fink what else? :ok

thanks guys, but i'm looking more towards the inside of the camper area. what should be done to the water systems? somewhere i thought i read about flushing the lines out, but with what and does the solution stay in all winter?
what about covering it? on one hand it keeps off the elements, but on the other it could allow for condensation.

If you must store it
Empty out the old engine oil and renew it. Don't leave old oil sitting in the engine
inside
Drain everything out fully or it with break things when it freezes.
wax is the best cover...
Air the van whenever you can
worst thing is a cover, wrecks paint promotes damp loving mould

best wax for cold weather protection... are
Autoglym Hi Def
Collinite 915 Marque D'Elegance
Nattys White & Blue
RaceGlaze 55
Swissvax Divine, Mystery, BoS and Concourso
Victoria Concours

All applied ONCE

Allways use a HARD wax first , followed with a soft wax.
this will give all winter long paint protection.
As long as detergent is not used and a good quality shampoo is, then the protection is as good as a cover.

Remember this, expect trouble when you come to use it next year..they do not like neglect

Use it. Even if it's just a ride to the coast. Park overlooking the sea, pop the kettle on and have a stroll
