1.9 DG fuel Consumption?

Post by KittyCamper84 »

I've looked on wiki to see what mine should be doing but there is no info for 2wd petrols! It is a 1.9 DG with peirburg carb. It is a pop top so not so much wind resistance but i'm luckky if i get 20mpg? :x

Hi, i have a 1.9dg with pierburg and i towed a trailer to cornwall and got about 22mpg off my first tank full (didnt work out the rest). Normally get about 25 - 27 mpg without a trailer if it helps, thats at 55-60mph.
However thats on a recon engine with a crud carb!

Carbs generally only need throttle flap rebushing and you just replace the gaskets yourself (kit). Roger Ball (see carb section in WIKI) does them mail order. Does bugs and bays too.

With a heavy hitop or even heavier poptop around 20 is the norm.

vw figures show 20-29mpg thats the lowest to highest 2wd caravelle including max /min for all engine /gerabox variations

you need to make sure your running correct wheels /tyres , your gerabox is the correct code and all tyres are at correct pressures ect

you should be crusing at 60mph max

i used to get 27mpg averaged over about 4000miles in my standard dg powered 4 speed high top ,loaded 4 people, my max speed was 60 with 195/80/14 tyres fitted to the rear
