Picking up my first T25 this week, what tools you recommend?

Im heading some 500km by train to collect my 1.9L Petrol Syncro Caravelle T25 this week, and don't fancy carrying all my tools with me, but will if I have to, its a 150pc Halfords set I got when I lived in the UK.

I would be interested in any advice on which specific tools, spanners, pliers, screwdrivers, lubricants and alike you would recommend I take with me should I run into troubles on my way back home. I plan on getting some engine oil, but which oil does the 1.9L Petrol take? I checked with the seller regarding the petrol type, and they recommend I use unleaded 95E, and not the 98E, why Im not sure. Anyone know issues should I not able to find 95E petrol. Would I need to add an additive etc?

Its watercooled, and been told its losing coolant somewhere, so need to make sure I have water containers. Any pointers to common areas that can leak water would be appreciated.

It's a 14" Syncro, so need to also find out what the tyre pressures are, and what tyres should be on there, as reading the buyers guide, it recommends to check these in case the fitted tyres are car tyres.

A basic socket set. Set of spanners. Flat and posi screwdriver. Duck tape, insulating tape, cable ties and a bible should get you through pretty much anything.

Breakdown cover(especially as its loosing coolant) and take it easy ,don't go over 50mph on the way home.

Cheers Mark, the seller has told me the following regarding the coolant.

One problem that the car has is the cooling liquid container which leaks. I tried to add cooling liquid but it ends really fast.
After that i havent added the liquid, but temperatures of the motor are normal. The air cooling function also well.
A guy sad to me that is a norma problem and I drove with the car to Slovakia and back without cooling liquids.

Make any sense? I'm kind of confused by this to be perfectly honest.

Bottle of K seal, add to yer header tank, it "may" help slow the coolant loss

How on earth can you drive a water cooled vehicle without coolant? Which container leaks? if its the one behind the number plate(Reserve tank) then you can run the van.And get it replaced asap. Reserve tank.If its the header tank.Then it needs replacing before you drive it anywhere.Header Tank

The seller is not mechanically minded, so Im guessing there is coolant in the engine, but its the reserve tank thats not holding water. I will ask the seller this just to make sure. Thanks for the link mate.

It might be an idea to order the header tank cap as well.Or at least get one as a spare as these do need replacing at some point.Cap

Had some more photos emailed to me yesterday showing the extent of the bodywork. The right side read arch has been cut away ready for the replacement to be welded on. (Supplied). Also the front panel below the lower grill looks rough so will probably replace that rather then filling it.

Been and got a few things suggested in this thread for me to take a long with me when I collect my van. Picked up the following....



Not pictured are several sizes of spanners, sockets, and ratchets. The bucket was the wifes idea , which will come in handy for cleaning it.

First things I want to get done, apart from the arch welding, and front panel is to get the cooling system sorted, and pressurized, so ordered new reserve tank, and header tank +Caps. Then will change the oil, and filter, ignition leads, plugs, points, and coil. Oh, and air filter too.

Ordered a service manual which should be hopefully by the weekend, which will help me familiarise with my new van more. These very forums have helped me so much since joining, and helped me choose the Syncro im collecting this week after seeing many pears, and high mileage examples.
