I have just remembered, whilst replying to another post, that I have a question for all you members.....

I have a device installed called a Broquet. I have only just Googled it (After having my camper 18 months) and found that it is a fuel catalyser. See herehttp://www.broquet.co.uk/

If the hype is to be believed then a 10% increase in fuel economy, cleaner engine, lower co2 and particle emissions, from diesels, can be achieved.

Does any body else have one of these fitted and did they get the improvements mentioned. The device was fitted to mine before I bought it but my camper does go quicker and I can just about drive from the Lake District to St Ives on one tank of Diesel (going quite quickly too..)

I have never done a MPG test maybe its time I did.....wathch this space :wink:

I guess I am the only one with one of these fitted.......!!

I willdo a MPG test and let you all know the results.......if its good news may be more people will buy one.......I wonder if I could get commission :D

Best way to save on fuel, is keep it off the go faster pedal :D

Well just returned from our annual two week holiday to Cornwall, 800 mile round trip in total.

The results for my mpg are:-
  • 400 miles travelling at 60 to 65 mph fully loaded with enough food to last the fortnight including 8 2 litre bottles of Coke/Irn Bru Beer and enough tinned beans to gas a field full of cows.....average 30.43 mpg from my 1.6 ns diesel.

    400 miles travelling home at 65 to 70 mph (occasional trips to 72mph when passing the speeding caravan towers who were snaking all over their lanes at 70mph) after drinking all the Coke /Irn Bru and the beer and feasting on beans and tinned new potatoes..... average 30.5 mpg

Unfortunately just before we went away I noticed that there seemed to be a little less ooomph and whilst running down to Cornwall and back she smoked like a an old sailor especially when I was hard on the gas pushing her up the many hills. At the camp-site I checked her tailpipe and it was decidedly sooty (It never has been before) and she required topping up with a little oil.......Now could this be due to changing her oil last time with the good stuff we normally put in our Golf TDi (Synthetic) ?

I realised after reading the many posts on here that the best oil to use is the mineral oil so I will be changing to that for her next oil change.

You're lucky if the synthetic oil even stayed in the engine. It's way too thin for these vans. It will find it's way out through the seals.

Mineral oil is what you want. I always used Halfords Classic 20/50. Some change to slightly thinner in winter but I ran all year round on that without any problems.

I assume one of those trips was without the catchpenny device?
So is that a fail with 10% saving?

I wasn't shouting about the mpg, I hadn't been checking the fuel consumption before and just wondered what I was achieving. I only mentioned the magic fuel device because it was already fitted and wondered what other people were getting with a similar engine with a pop top.

I was going to travel at 55 to 60 mph but I found that was a little too slow for my liking. I used to drive a 7.5 tonne flatbed for a living and so am used to travelling at just above the speed of the big trucks.

So what does everybody else get from their 1.6 non turbo diesels....if there are any left out there that have not been "upgraded" to a turbo etc.?

30mpg is pretty bloody good for one of these vans.

To be honest, without an engine transplant or lpg on a petrol engine, that's probably about as good as it gets. :ok

35-40 mpg fully loaded, high top, 1500 mile round trip. 1.6 n/a engine. Keep to 55 mph, 10-20 mph up mountains!

Nev, i didnt mean as in you were shouting about it , just that I dont think 30mpg is good , I think its measly and I would look to sorting it, I like oldie and many others have a 1.6na, no need to upgrade if thats the right word, engine does fine 90% of the time, I sit at 55 or 55-60 when getting to someplace then its holiday mode and slower, I get 35 ish all day with a well loaded hitop, large leisure gas tank, 15 gallons of water and all sorts of gear, (oh and yes 1st gear up blue bank and big sharp hills kill it but...)

If things like this worked, everyone would have them, in fact the manufactures would fit them as standard.

Significantly improves fuel combustion and engine performance - Independent evidence of this claim anyone ?

Allows safe use of unleaded in all older 4-star engines. - so if my engine needs leaded petrol but I use this and it gets damaged, you will pay out = NOT !

Used by many thousands of motorists. - Ah, not millions then, that good is it ?
