Mk 1 Golf steering wheel fitted to T25

Post by jason896 »

Hi

I've just fitted a Mk 1 Golf Gti steering wheel to my T25, as I've just had electronic power steering fitted- Amazing!!
However, there is a gap (10 mm ish) between the wheel and column, and now the indicator doesn't switch off automatically, plus the horn won't work!

Has anyone had this problem before? Does a boss or some sort of a spacer need to be fitted?

Looking forward to any help sorting this out as my misses told me to leave the old one on and I said- don't be silly, a smaller wheel is much better!! :-/

Many thanks

Jason

I took some pics when I did mine, figured this was a popular fitment and issue. Raised using computer motherboard mounting posts:

It's self explainatory but essentially the switchgear is raised to meet the self cancel paw on the steering wheel.

Just be careful about the final clearance between the horn contacts and horn contact ring...in my experience you might need to file these posts down a couple of millimetres.

Good job... :ok

Martin, would you be so kind as to advise where you purchased the 6mm mounting posts please?

Or go into any local small computer shop (ie not PC World ;))

We used to have buckets of them in our service centre. I hate throwing stuff like that away, "you never now when you might need one" is me. I even pick up washers etc from the kerbside "just in case it comes in handy"
