Hi, I would like to find out the exact date that my van was produced on so that I will know when it becomes tax and mot exempt. Where do I send to for the birth certificate and how much does it cost. Here's a few details I know of already about my van. It's registered as an 81 , it has the earlier metal vents and the VIN /chassis number on my logbook starts with a 5A. Would be very grateful for your help on this matter.

You can check yourself here

http://vwt3.com/t3-tech/t3-data/t3-manufacture-dates/

You can also get the Historic vehicle status with a simple letter from a recognised club or with data from an old Glass's data book. That website will not be accepted as evidence. I used to do letters for type 3 and type 4 owners when they were going through the relevant dates. I don't know if my books are recent enough for T25's though.

October 1979

I thought that too, but that didn't make sense against the registration date of 1981 when the T25 was in such short supply when they were introduced. I know because my dad had trouble getting one new in early 1980, so I decided to keep quiet until the VIN number was checked by the OP

Hi, where is the best website to get one of these certificates that would be acceptable as proof of production to the DVLA.

Hi, Aidan, Are you saying from the info I have given that you think my van was first produced in October 79 so would be a very early model. Thanks.

First step is to actually confirm your VIN from the van

Where on the van should I look for this. Is it likely to be on the passenger door A pillar, anywhere else to look.

It should be visible for MOT purposes so should be on the black plate on the right side A pillar visible when the door is open
It is also stamped into the back of the crossmember underneath the van below the right front side seat at the back of the wheel arch

On an early van it’s under the passenger seat on a riveted plate just under the seat runner

It is on the M plate under the left front seat. But if it is a true 1979 that year still used the old style vin number. so it would start some something like 259, 9 being the year of manufacture.

Is the chassis number on my plate and log book the older or newer version.
