Re: 5kw Fuel air heater
I would put it under the wheels. You do know that Planar do not sell on Ebay? - that is a Chinese copy of a Planar.

Re: 5kw Fuel air heater
This is the only one I have used, if it broke I would buy another one tomorrow, it is in my workshop which is 3200 sq feet, and it heats it up by 15degrees in 2 hours, it is great, I would imagine they are ideal for campervans,

I've got a 2kw one £109 delivered, had in for a year now, keeps the camper at around 20c when its 0c outside. I run it on mainly on kerosene 79p per ltr.

Re: 5kw Fuel air heater
Hi what's the noise like out of these heaters i read somewhere that you're better off getting the small heater and running it at full power rather than getting the bigger heater and running it at half power because they tend to clog up and need to be service if you do that is that right

Re: 5kw Fuel air heater
Yes, small one at full chat is better than large one running at 1/3 all the time. Constant low output will cause premature coking up.
I bought a couple of 5Kw Webastos off a guy as he had nothing but problems with them from new. When I checked the ecu they both had been run constantly at low output and had never ever been run on full, obviously he had over specified his requirements and consequently ran into trouble.
People think that I am talking nonsense when I try to persuade them to have a smaller heater than the size that they think they need. Even with the 2Kw ones I quite often see in the ecu that they have never been run on full heat and they are the ones that are coked up prematurely also.
Also 5Kw Webasto heaters will only run at at 1.5Kw as a minimum which will still be too high an output for most of our vans for constant running. I presume that the Chinese and Planar 5Kw ones will be much the same specifications. ( No, I am not going to start servicing and supplying them, I have enough to do with the Webastos )

Re: 5kw Fuel air heater
That it may well do but more than likely spend more time uninstalling and re-installing it often to decoke it.

Re: 5kw Fuel air heater
You're right it will warm up quicker but I think I'll go for the 2kw one just because of the less maintenance I hope

Re: 5kw Fuel air heater
I've got to ask: why did VW spec the BBW/DBW 4.6 as an option? Was it for the sub-arctic Scandinavian market or was there only one available at the time?
