I thought it odd when you asked for instructions when told to remove the filter. :)

ROB I work with computers, am useless at this stuff but it doesn’t mean I’m not willing to learn.

Appreciate anyone taking the time to answer questions and put up with my lack of knowledge.

I think what rob means is - it’s pretty simple. I came into van ownership not knowing much, but I had the benefit of working on a diesel. I’ve had diesel everywhere due to "feck" ups not tightening the pump unions enough or leaks from new pipe not quite fitted properly. Diesel is non impactful in these circumstances, petrol - bigger, warmer impact of leaks. I’m worried for you if you don’t know how to do this safely. Moving would involve running fuel line back to a location nearer the tank and putting a filter there. Without the line rubbing against anything, chafing and leaking of course.

Most of us were where you are at some point. If there is a college anywhere near you, it might be worth getting on a welding or mechanical course. Also not cheap but get yourself one of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/Volkswagen-Van ... +vw+manual or follow this link viewtopic.php?f=7&t=110469 You will need to become a member of the club first.Fill this in to become a member.http://www.club80-90.co.uk/pages/membershipform.html

I work with computers as well btw. Good transferable skills for this stuff. But like plumbing, where computers are a science, vans are an art, it’s not a case of either it works or not, it can work followed by later failure :)

As you may not know when the fuel lines were last changed you could kill two birds with one stone and remove the filter and replace your fuel lines with a pre-assembled kit like this https://www.brickwerks.co.uk/t3-parts/e ... 9l-dg.html .

Tons of help on here plus you can use the search box (top right of the page) to look up stuff and the wiki (top left). All things covered and a fair few problems crop up...a lot.

@Lefty67 that’s the impression I got with the van, wasn’t sure if the zig unit was original or not. It has a propane heater, that’s what the switch is to the left of the zig unit.

I don’t know how precious I am about the interior. I really want to put 3/4 Rusty Lee bed in there and 3 point belts, it almost feels like the interior needs to come out to do all that kind of work.

If it’s a DIY, non specific T3 then I have no issue butchering :)

That’s a nice honest-looking van. You can see the rust, and you can see the bodges.

It no doubt feels really daunting getting this flood of questions and advice, but you can believe that just about everyone on here is well meaning, and an awful lot of us started our T25 ownership knowing nothing at all. Me included. My knowledge has come from Haynes and Bentley, (and the diesel manual), and I went on a welding evening course at my local college. I’m quite proud of the fact that in my time of ownership I’ve only had one job done at the garage so far - after the front brakes seized a few days after buying it! At that point I knew that the only way we could afford to keep it was if I did everything myself. Oh, and I paid someone to paint it badly too. But that’s a reflection of me working in the NHS and having a pay freeze, too many kids, etc etc. I’ve always liked getting my hands dirty, but before this it was with bicycles, no vehicle experience at all. Loads of people on here use garages tho, but they have deeper pockets than me. I would too, then I’d a actually be able to enjoy it with the family!

But you can trust everyone on here to be enthusiastically behind you all the way.

Wish I was as good at spotting them, but thank you. Also, it's nice to hear words like that about my new family member. A bit of TLC and we're sure to have some great adventures, she might be a bit scuffy but that was actually one of our original requirements when we bought our first van.
