Lost keys

Post by shaky »

Not sure which board is best for this so I've stuck it in general.
I've gorn and lost my keys. (Not used the van for a long time, but I now need to move it).

I've searched the forum and there is a bit on locks.....

It seems to suggest that if I can get the lock number I may be able to get a new key cut.
Is this correct? Does it have to be a main dealer jobby.... I don't think they would be interested in a 37 year old vehicle!
I've taken both the door handles off to try and get at the lock but on both sides the split pins are so coroded that I can't get them to budge.
Before I dive in any further: Is the steering lock easy to get off? It may be less corroded. The slider is another possibility.

Any theories welcome to get me moving again!

The key number will be stamped on one of those grey shafts (top right). Take a picture with your mobile, then expand it to read the numbers. A dab of oil will make it clearer.
There used to be a guy on here who could cut keys from numbers, but not sure if he still does it. Check in the Members Only section.
You'll need to check with any other keycutter, to see if they can do it from the numbers or not. Bound to be some classic key specialists online...

I found out that the key to Lindsay's old SEAT Toledo (long since gone to the knackers yard) opened the van door locks and could be used to start it. Is any T25 owner near you whose key you could try?
Are we going on anything else?
