Laptop replacement hard drive & transfer of Windows 7 OS

I have a laptop / notebook and want to replace the hard drive as the capacity is pants.

I have never replaced a lappy hard drive before, though seen some vidoes and looks straight forward.
Though what might not be straight forward is the Windows 7 OS. I bought the product key off ebay a few years ago and it worked fine on the install. If I have to reload it again, I am not entirely sure that product key would work again, as never had the product key new.

Is there a way I can save all the windows 7 OS information from the hard drive to say a flash drive and re-install all of it back on to the new hard drive without having to go through MS product key authorisation again?

Thanks

buy an SSD it will longen the life of the notebook, and download some drive cloning software like Macrium Reflect. You can drive the existing HDD to the SDD on the existing notebook with a USB HDD case and then replace the two drives
