replacement Hi Fi cartridge

Post by scottbott »

just looking online for a replacement for my Dual 505–2 the cartridge is a Dual DN165E and the price difference is amazing from £20 up to £65 for the same thing, just wondering if there are fakes out there but the places I have been looking at are specialists in the UK, anyone found the same thing?

I have a Nagaoka MP11 in my Dual - recommended / bought from a specialist not too much longer after buying the original deck, so best part of 30 years ago. Still sounds good, but not much use over the past 15-20 years.

I'm happy with it, google around, I think they are still available

I've been into Hi-Fi most of my life and used to run a shop where I bought, sold and repaired it.

Yes, there are plenty of naff copies around

It's going to last for a few hundred "plays" of LPs, so you are right to check that you are buying a proper one for sure, irrespective of price. I reckon the cheap ones will all be copies.

My advice is, don't buy it from any unknown source on the net. I would only buy from a place that I can ring up. The first question to ask is whether it is genuine, then, does it come in genuine Ortofon packaging (Dual carts are re-badged Ortofon) including the nice plastic "tub" like THIS ONE I found on Ebay (not saying buy that one, it's just to show the correct packaging).

thanks for the replies, have been looking at a company called 'Stylus Plus' based in Leicester, they say they most of the stylus they sell are excellent retros of the originals and are 'as good or better' than the originals
