Remove LPG

Hi,
Am in the process of welding up the van, and other jobs as well as they come up!
The van has an lpg conversion which runs well.
I don’t plan on doing mega miles in the van, won’t be a daily driver for sure.
The tank is under the bed, pretty valuable storage area..
What are your opinions.. remove/keep?
Any comments welcome!
Thanks

keep, costs soon add up for fuel just put 50 quid on the petrol tank this morning, painful
just take less stuff with you, camping should be about getting away.

Up to you but, for me, untill lpg becomes unavailable or no longer subsidised it is staying. Also, if I were buying or selling lpg is a plus.

So, I can have a van that does about 20mpg or one that does about 40mpg (working on the fact that lpg is around half the price of petrol) but I will be able to carry a couple of extra chairs and whatever other cr*p we end up putting under the bed.

Basically you're going to be doubling your running costs, but it's your call.

You know you want me to take the LPG conversion off your hands don't you? My Autosleeper was much more usable with LPG. Saved me a fortune in fuel. Keep it. you know it makes sense.

Out of curiosity, someone mentioned the fact that LPG is subsidised, but are there any whispers that this might end? I'd like to convert my camper, but that wouldn't be for a year or so, so I'd hate to 'miss the boat'!

No, not exactly subsidised but the rate of duty is much lower. The government have pledged to maintain the gap for another year, and not to increase it by more than 1p per year above any increase in the petrol duty rate thereafter.

Fuel duty rates (23 Mar 2011 – March 2019)
Ultra-Low Sulphur Petrol 57.95 p/litre
Ultra-Low Sulphur Diesel 57.95 p/litre
Biodiesel 57.95 p/litre
Bioethanol 57.95 p/litre
Liquefied petroleum gas 31.6 p/kg
Natural gas 24.7 p/kg
Electricity Zero

Sources: HM Treasury, Jan 2018.

Note that the duty rate for LPG is quoted per kilo. As LPG weighs around half as much as water, that's about two litres per kilo, so approx 16p/litre duty!
Bargain.

That is why LPG tankers sit higher in the water than oil tankers, the weight is so low. Oil tankers when full sit very low in the water. Very interesting crawling around those tanks on a ship as they are rounded due to them being pressurized. Plenty of spaces for contraband. :)

Thanks, but I hope the low duty still exists into 2020????
