All depends on the radius and how accurate you want to be. A gentle bend over a long length can be done over a former. Go too tight and it just buckles. Specialist benders can go to quite a tight radius but have specialist machinery to do it.

depends on which way round it is too, if 2 inch high then can get a tighter radius that if 2 inch wide

Re: any metal fabrication people on here
thanks for replies, basically i will need about 4 of them. Its an arch shape , the best way i can describe it, is an arch thats 10ft wide and 7/8ft high, on the top of the arch there is a flat section of less than a metre. The 2" side is the length and the 1" is part of the height and width, (bent the easiest way) if that makes sense. All 4 need to be the same profile within a couple of mm if that would be possible.
Would it be possible to have these made with that sort of tolerance ? Does any one know what sort of time would be involved in making these.? Thanks for any help. adam

Not getting a proper picture of it but you can form rectangular section steel on a rolling machine - looks like an old fashion mangle but the radius of the curve needs to be many times the cross section unless very special tooling is used. It can be formed by making many cuts nearly through on the inside of the bend and then welding to repair strength. Round tube is less critical and can be formed round a strong round former slightly less radius than the required radius as it will spring out a bit again. The same process can work on rectangular section but it is difficult to prevent buckling or kinking.

What's the end use? I used to make one off architectural stuff like domes and more sculptural things years ago. For that sort of tolerance in box you would need a specialist bender with all the kit.
Re: any metal fabrication people on here
thanks for the replies, im making,or thinking of making a bit of a complicated structure, its something the size that you could drive a car in, difficult to explain really

not an issue, we use this http://www.pipeandtubemachines.co.uk/pr ... -ce40-mr3/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; not this model but same device and it works great on box/angle/tube/and fllat bar the wrong way

You could try doing it by brute force... I'd guess at minimum you'd need a strong plywood former on a sturdy workbench.
