Which spray adhesive?

Post by captain Byrne »

I'm re-lining my interior panels with faux leather (leatherette) and wondered which is the best spray adhesive to use. Ta.

I've found Evo Stik carpet spray adhesive pretty good with a variety of materials.

Carpet to wood, and recently tried it to stick a rubber mat to a steel topped workbench, worked a treat!

I'm pretty sure all of the aerosol adhesives are the same to be honest. They all do what it says on the tin, as well as being a pain to clean up so make sure you mask areas that aren't to be glued.
Why would the glass be anything other than half full?

From experience, avoid the std evo-stik spray 'impact adhesive' as available from halfords. It really doesn't hold up well at all when things warm up a bit.

I've used 'trim-fix' more recently (following advice from others) and had far more success....

Cheers. I've used megafix before when I did some lining for the poptop & that seems to be ok. I get the feeling Trim fix, Megafix & Martrim are pretty much the same thing.

Don't use common spray adhesive - it won't last, use proper automotive high temperature adhesive designed for the job. (trimfix is one)

Personally not had great luck using the spray adhesives before. I find the brush on contact adhesive less messy and easier to control where and how much you want.

Plus generally cheaper for the same quantity. Just don't buy bigger than you need as it never keeps well.

Mmm Evo Stik, back in the day (1970's) I has a summer job in an adhesive factory, up a ladder emptying drums of solvent into a mixer. Hot weather made your head swim, not sure what modern H&S would think of it.

I used one of the popular - at the time - Thixotropic adhesives to hold up the leatherette in a van on account of the ability to slide it about when applying.
However after not enough years it started to slide right off!
Seems like a good reason to use a product specifically formulated for the job as per previous posts. :ok
