rear bearing

Post by gary1998 »

just a thought
as bearing carriers are hard/expensive to get
is it it possible to have old one machined out so as the round again
then maybe fit oversized bearing ?? or have a shim fitted taking it back to original size and use om bearings

£294 a piece according to Brickwerks. If it were me I'd take it to a good machine shop and discuss it with them. I'm positive it will be much cheaper to rework and resleeve it to match bearings you supply. Either that or if you know anyone with a lathe, they should be asble to find a solution. As the carriers are cast, this is probably why they wear oval. Heat-treated ones would last much longer. Either way at close to £600 for two, I'd be asking around ;)

Certainly worth a try although a second hand one is likely to have a degree of ovality to it considering the age of these vehicles. Important to check tolerance before swapping out.
