Windows 10 back to Windows 7.

Post by nesty »

Hi all

I have a PC related question. If anyone can help
About 6 months ago I had Windows 7. I took the Microsoft free offered upgrade to Windows 10. I absolutely hate Windows 10 now. I am now getting blue screens and restarts with error codes. Mainly ‘Stop management error’. Access to certain files restricted.
The 30 days has past, so I can’t go back to Windows 7 on a automatic rollback.
If I got a another Windows 7 disc with product key would this do a fresh clean install and would my files and user accounts remain? Or would a fresh install wipe everything out?
In the past I have only upgraded not rolled back before.
Thanks

Best to do a clean install. That would wipe everything so you'd need to make sure you have everything backed up first.

Ok thanks for that.
Would that also involve reloading on the virus protection as well?

Good man. Windows plateaued at XP and W7 is on the way down in terms of utility. W10 finished it off to me and was designed primarily for touch screen as far as I can see. So while using XP and Linux for my clever engineering stuff, I reluctantly use one laptop on W7 to do just this sort of communication with the outside world.

I did a maintenance Windows 10 update repair fix. Scanned everything and righted a lot of the stuff. Seems like dodgy updates in the past were to blame. I accidently switched of automatic updates!

The PC seems to be very stable now!

Some computers just don't like windows 10. Probably hardware compatibility issues

As told, a clean install usually fix all the things, but good to hear you sorted out.

There were some dodgy updates that ruined the system, and were replaced in the next few days in a new update. Maybe you ran into one.
My only issue with win10 is my touchpad on my lenovo laptop. It runs crazy sometimes. But as I read it is a common error, no good drivers for it.

Glad to see back of 7. In a corporate environment it was useless as you had to keep manually putting updates through. Now they all get updated overnight automatically. Upgraded over 300 Pcs from Windows 7 and they were all different models. Not had one problem.

Try installing 'slimdrivers' before you ditch 10. Its free. Highly likely it'll find all the missing/incorrect drivers for you and all will be well.

I'll vote for win 10 too. I work as an animator and run a lot of very big programs all running very well. Even my trusty 20 year old HP laser printer is supported! I'm happy

W10 and its applications is fine if you want a guided lifestyle. If you just want a computer as tool a it is a step too far for me.
Good luck with it anyway.

Depends how you set it up. At least its not like 8 or 8.1. Windows 10 works the same as 7 but with less overheads. Much better operating system once you turn off all the privacy parts.
