Re: engine numbers
yes you can do that, dimensionally they are the same and it just bolts straight in, you won't get the extra power of the DG without changing carb to the pierburg 2e3 , inlet manufold and dizzy.

Re: engine numbers
Thanks for that mate, so can I still use the old carb and dizzy, I'm not really interested in the extra power, just will it work sufficiently? Cheers

Re: engine numbers
For your future ease and in the interests of reliability you should consider getting a DG manifold and water pipes so you can get parts easier if you need them

The DF is 60hp the DG is 78hp, the DF and DG are engine number codes .

Re: engine numbers
Looks like my engine (that went bang was a VW rebuilt engine (funny symbol followed by 265).
Its a 2.1 (or at least that's what I believe it is !), - is there any way of telling from the above number exactly what engine it is / was ?
Just double checking before getting hold of a s/h engine case (as the conrod went through the old one - have had 8 or 9 years out of it (I had it s/h so don't know when the rebuild was done.
Cheers

Re: engine numbers
the late 2.1 and 1.9 case is the same, if it has two oil pressure switches then thats a late case and what you need.
if it has one oil pressure switch thats an early case and won't be a 2.1
.... unless somebody modified the case of course, somebody on here has done that
a definate way to tell is the top bolt is m10 on a late case
and smaller on an early case
if you want to know what pistons it has then a USB endoscope down the llug hole will tell you
DG at back, DJ left, MV right
