Wiper problem

Post by Bigal23 »

So driving along on a lovely summers day(monsoon rain that is) when the drivers side wiper on my 2ltr air cooled 1981. It carried on,off the windscreen but continued to do an arc sticking out below the wing mirror!
I assumed the centre bolt must have been loose so re positioned and retightened but went straight back off windscreen. I've looked at Haynes manual but no idea what's gone wrong and how to fix it. Any ideas?

Hi, sounds like the operating arm has come loose on the inner end of the wiper spindle. It may be possible to repair it but a new spindle would be the better repair. It is probably a pig to remove so better to do the job once and get it right first time! Parts diagram shows 4 different spindles as left hand drive is different to right hand drive and near side is different to off side so make sure you get the correct one if you need a new spindle.

Hope this helps
